We took a day trip to Saint Mary’s Glacier earlier this month. It’s not a glacier but a permanent ice field. Very little of it left and it likely will not be permanent for long. In the foreground of the lake pics there is a large moose, just enjoying the sun. The trail comes up from beyond the lake, so we passed ~50 yards behind the moose to get to the photo spot. We would not have done that if we knew there was a moose – I want nothing to do with a moose in early October.

This is a really nice day hike close to Denver. It’s just past Idaho Springs, CO and a few miles north of I-70. There is a pair of private parking lots ($20/day) and a short hike with something like 400 feet of elevation gained.
